The Current of Progress: A Spring Update from Bayan Studio
The Chicago weather might be unpredictable this March, but inside the heart of Bayan Studio, the momentum is steady, rhythmic, and undeniable. As we look toward the horizon of 2026, we wanted to pull back the curtain and share exactly where we are on this journey toward opening our doors.
Finding Our Flow
We believe a ceramic studio should be more than just a room with wheels and kilns; it should be an ecosystem. Currently, we are deep in the design phase, meticulously planning the initial studio layout.
We are designing with "Flow" as our North Star. In our blueprints, we are carving out specific zones that honor the different states of the creative process:
Energy: High-vibrancy communal areas for collaborative building and shared inspiration.
Stillness: Quiet corners designed for the meditative focus that throwing and carving require.
Connection: Seamless transitions that allow artists to move through their work without friction.
Every square foot is being considered to ensure that when you step into Bayan, the architecture itself helps you drop into your craft.
The Financial Horizon
Building a home for the arts requires a solid foundation, and we are thrilled to share that we are nearing the "starting line" of our journey. We are currently finalizing the details of our financing and anticipate a May 2026 close. This is a major milestone that will transition us from the "dreaming and drawing" phase into the "building and doing" phase. It’s the final piece of the puzzle that will allow Bayan Studio to become a permanent fixture in the Chicago arts community.
Momentum Over Weather
Chicagoans know that March is a season of shifts—one day it’s a hint of spring, the next it’s a reminder of winter. While we can’t control the breeze off the lake, the momentum of this project is constant.
We are moving forward with intention, fueled by the support of our partners like the Chicago Center for Craft and the incredible community of makers who have cheered us on from day one.
The clay is centered. The wheel is spinning. We can’t wait to welcome you home in 2026.
