The Season of Centering
There is a specific kind of magic during Spring in Chicago. It’s that week where the air finally loses its bite, the ground softens, and everything feels like it’s holding its breath, waiting for the green to explode.
At Bayan Ceramics, we are currently in our own version of that "holding breath" moment.
While our new Oak Park home is still quiet for now, beneath the surface, there is an incredible amount of life taking shape. We are in the Season of Centering. Centering Before the Pull If you’ve ever sat at a pottery wheel, you know that the most important work happens before the pot ever starts to grow. It’s the quiet, physical act of centering—getting the clay into perfect alignment so it can withstand the growth to come.
That is what this Spring is for us. We are centering the studio. We are finalizing the blueprints for our 48-wheel grid, confirming the specs for our industrial 480V kilns, and ensuring our plumbing "wet zones" are ready for the thousands of pounds of clay that will soon pass through them.
June: Our Summer Groundbreaking
While Spring is for centering, June will be our season of growth. When the summer sun is at its peak, we’ll be tearing down old walls and building new ones. We’ll be installing those overhead power drops and setting the foundation for the most advanced ceramic community space in the area.
Thawing Out
Pottery is an art of patience. We wait for the clay to reclaim, we wait for the piece to reach leather-hard, and we wait for the kiln to cool. This Spring, we ask you to wait with us just a little longer.
Enjoy the "thaw" in your own gardens and parks. Take a deep breath of that fresh Spring air. Because come June, we’ll be trading the quiet for the sound of hammers and drills—all in service of building a space where you can get muddy, get creative, and find your own center.
The transformation begins in June. We can’t wait to share the journey with you.
